Throwing Large Dish

Time: 10am - 4pm
Join experienced potter Lucy Winch, for a large dish throwing workshop. We will be using a natural stoneware from Saint Amand en Puisaye, a famous potters clay, from the Burgundy region. A fine grained, plastic, naturally occurring clay with excellent throwing and modelling characteristics.
We will learn and use a spiral wedge technique and learn ways of centering larger amounts of clay.
Who it’s for:
The workshop is not suitable for beginners, you will need to be confident centering 2kg of clay. We will be working with 2-4kg of clay.
Skills outcomes:
Learning how to handle larger amounts of clay and throw on a bat, clay preparation and spiral wedging, techniques to form a wide large dish. You will be able to keep 1 piece, take it home with you or come and collect it or finish it another day at Mudworks.
What you will need:
Please bring an apron or wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty!
Please remove jewellery and tie long hair back
All materials are included. Tools provided but bring your own if you wish
You may wish to bring your own sketch book to take notes
FAQs
Can I take my work home?
Yes, you are welcome to take 1 piece home with you. Alternatively, you can use our Open Access sessions to trim your piece, and even go on to glaze it.
Can I get a refund if I can’t make it?
Let us know as soon as you can, if you want to cancel your booking. If you let us know more than 14 days ahead of the course start date, you will receive a full refund. Within 14 days of the course starting, you will not be able to receive a refund, unless your place on the course is filled by someone else.
