Improvers Hand Building

This 5-week course is aimed at improvers looking to build on previous experience with hand building to create more ambitious pieces. It will allow you to develop your sculpting and decorative techniques to designs of your choosing, as well as recapping some fundamentals. You will come away with two beautiful and unique pieces, each with a different technical focus.
What is included?
In this course we will be building on fundamental hand building techniques to create more ambitious forms. This will include slab building, coil building, and pinching. Each piece you create will also act as a surface for different decorative techniques, including the use of slips, sgraffito, carving, and glazing.
There will be a selection of glazes on offer for you to use during the course, and you will come away with an understanding of how clays, slips, glazes and kiln firings interact with one another. You will come away with three beautiful and unique pieces, each with a different technical focus. All materials and kiln firings are included.

Meet Your Tutor
Pascale Wilson, is an artist working in Bristol. She loves to create character-rich artworks, combining simple forms with faces, patterns and bold colours to spark narratives. Pascale has been teaching ceramics for 4 years, and is passionate about sharing her knowledge. She feels clay is an accessible medium to anyone, whether they deem themselves to be creative or not, and loves to help people realise their ideas. Her sessions offer information fundamental to hand building and decorating, while providing the scope for individual style and creativity within each project.

What happens if I miss a session?
Don’t worry, your tutor will make sure to catch you up on the next class. We cannot offer any refunds for missed sessions during a course, but you are welcome to book onto an Open Session to finish your pieces and make up the time. Please note that these sessions do not include tuition.
How long does the kiln firing take?
Firing can take up to 4 weeks, we will contact you when your pieces are ready to collect
Can I get a refund after booking?
Let us know as soon as you can, if you want to cancel your booking. If you let us know more than 14 days ahead of the course start date, you will receive a full refund. Within 14 days of the course starting, you will not be able to receive a refund, unless your place on the course is filled by someone else.
